The Best Texas Campervan Campsites

Choosing campsites for your road trip can be overwhelming for beginner campers, especially when you’re traveling by campervan! There are multiple free services that help people find and book campervan campsites, but of course, we have some personal favorites. When it comes to Texas, there’s no shortage of cool campgrounds and epic private properties to book for your trip, but the state’s sheer size can be intimidating when it comes time to actually book your stay.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite sites and campgrounds across the state. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway, feel free to choose any one of the below; if you’re looking for a pit-stop on your journey, just scroll until you find the region you’re headed towards.

Texas Hill Country

500 Waves on the Llano River - This “slice of beachy heaven” may not be near the coast, but you can still go tubing, fishing, kayaking, and wading all day long at this truly magnificent site.

Low Gear Farmstead - A beautiful and economical option for campers on the edge of hill country. This working farm is perfect for any sort of retreat from the city that you might be planning.

Big Bend Country

El Cosmico - This “hippy paradise” is a truly wondrous property, nestled right in Marfa. It’s truly the place to stay for any artists and creatives looking to get inspired on their campervan road trip.

Cigar Springs Ranch - This site is located right near the Terlingua Ghost Town and Big Bend National park, perfect for those wanting easy access to the wonders of both on their trip. The site’s owners boast a very unique quality of the property: it was once used for filming old western films.

Panhandle Plains

Coyote Breaks Farm - In Wildorado, TX, right outside Amarillo, there sits a peaceful farm like no other. Experience the joy of waking up to a sea of windmills and grazing horses at this rustic site.

Big Stars Farm - The big draw of this site, nestled on an active farm with “curious cows,” is the catch-and-release catfish tank under the stars.

East Texas (Pineywoods)

Caddo Lake State Park - This state park is home to world’s largest cypress forest, and is perfect for any camper looking to take in the beauty of East Texas flora and fauna (just watch out for ‘gators!)

Blackberry Pines Disc & Camp - This campsite is located on 27 acres of property in the Pineywoods, but there’s a main attraction beyond its mere beauty: a 19-hole disc golf course, “carved out of the woods.”

The Gulf Coast & South Texas Plains

Sargent Island Fish ‘N’ Beach Camp - This little shack is home to a private pier for all the beach-themed fun you can dream up, and it’s perfect for parking your campervan at to go exploring on foot.

High Tide Oasis RV Pull-In -This site is perfect for those who want to park-and-go, the type of travelers who want to explore Galveston State Park and the beaches on foot, while being super close to all of downtown Galveston’s nightlife. It’s just a ferry ride away!
